Xerox Corporation

Xerox Corporation has improved and advanced on many of its technological services and products throughout many years.  Some of their technological advances that they have improved on would be:  mouses, printers, windows and Mactintosh computers.  Over the years Xerox has not made much of a profit from these products due to the ongoing competitors who also specialize in similar products that they do.  Over the years one of its major competitors would Canon had launched a new photocopier similiar to what they have created.  Throughout the years, Xerox has not invented a product that has lead the company into becoming one of the top company regarding technology.

UBC graduate

A young UBC graduate, Brian Wong graduated at the age of 19 has become the youngest entrepreneur to start a venture capital funding.  He came up with an ad of rewarding mobile gamers with prizes ranging from vitamin water to Sony tablets.  His ad "Kiip" has scored him $4 million.

Reflection

I found this article quite inspirational because this young man at the age of 19 has become such a successful entrepreneur.  It also gives many young people the motivation to become a sucessful entrepreneur like Brian Wong.

Revised Venture Ideas

The first venture idea that I could offer to the community could be piano lessons.  Many people especially children are always very amazed by the sound of music that the piano makes.  This service could be offered at a much lower cost than other places that offer piano lessons. The target market for this service would be for children who are interested in learning how to play the piano.

My second venture idea is to open a dessert cafe around David Thompson Secondary School. This dessert cafe could offer a wide selection of desserts such as: ice cream, crepes, bubble tea, cakes, muffins, donuts, etc.  This business could offer take out and delivery.  This business might require a high start-up cost. The target market for this business would probably be teenagers.  The business would most likely be very busy during the lunch hours due to the high number of students who go out for lunch.

Back-2-MAC Recyling Program

MAC cares about the environment and takes back it's primary packaging to recycle the plastic and materials to re-use for new packaging. In exchange, of you returning the primary packages you get something free, usually lipstick or anything else of your choice.  This is their way of thanking you for returning your primary packaging.
I believe that this MAC program is very unique and eco-friendly, which is always a good thing for our environment.  I am looking forward to trying this "back-2-MAC recycling program".

Sustainabilitiy

Many businesses now a days are becoming more eco-friendly to the environment.  For example, within the past 2 years Purell water bottles has changed their caps to become flat, and eco-friendly.  Also, many stores are charging consumers extra money to buy plastic bags when they shop.  This encourages consumers to use and bring their own shopping bags.  An example of this would be Chapters, they usually do not give out bags anymore, and when they do they charge and extra ten cents.

The Corporation, business ethics, and social responsibilities

It is important that a business is aware of their social responsibilities and business ethics.  Businesses should contribute by making an impact on the community or the world.  I believe that a business should not only think about making profits, but to also give back to the community while making profits.  I also think that it is highly unacceptable for a business to do outrageous things to harm the environment and community.

An example of how a business has harmed the environment and the community would be The Corporation.  This business hires young children who are very poor that are willing to work to support their family, while getting paid below minimum wage.  Some businesses have deals where a partial amount of funds would be donated to the less fortunate children.  I think that this is a way of how businesses try to generate and increase their profit.  They make a lot of profit because they pay children at a very low minimum wage while they make triple the profit of the amount they pay the workers.

It is important that business use their resources usefully rather than putting them to waste.  I think that certain business should share their resources with other countries who are less fortunate.  This would be considered a good social responsibility.
